Monument to Friedrich Reinhold Kreutzwald

Friedrich Reinhold Kreutzwald (1803 - 1882), the author of the Estonian national epic "Kalevipoeg", was born in Jõepere near Kadrina and grew up in Kaarli near Rakvere, studied in Rakvere primary and county schools in 1815-1818.

The memorial was unveiled in 1937, 55 years after the writer's death and 75 years since the epic appeared. The money was raised for the pillar with the help of donations and folk festivals.

The author of the monument is Tartu sculptor Aleksander Eller.
